Have your guests swooning over your gorgeous display when they come for Thanksgiving dinner. Get ready to shop your home for this easy fall DIY tailored to your home’s theme. Having a buffet is great for displaying what you love each season but it also is great for extra storage of plates, glassware, silverware, linens and vases. Follow along for 5 easy steps for how to style a fall buffet.
What is the mood you want to evoke as someone enters your home to gather? You want to stay true to your style but involve fall decor. My style for this buffet is modern romantic meets farmhouse chic which is fresh and pretty. I also want guests to feel cozy and connected. You can incorporate the theme and mood of your home throughout every season.
Gather together the pieces of art prints, trays (and mini pumpkins!) you can use chalk paint on and hand letter, decor items and crafty creations that you love and want to display. Grab your chalk paint tutorial for dollarstore trays with “Hatch Some Fun“.
You might want to go into different rooms in your home If you have a few pieces and want to add more to your collection. I added felt pumpkins that I made to emphasize the fall theme. Get your tutorial for these felt pumpkins with “How to Fake a Green Thumb“. I love the feel of the lace in the table cloth and doilies with the heaviness of the galvanized metal.
If you feel like something is missing, add a quick crafty piece such as this DIY banner. I resized then traced the hand lettered words; WELCOME, THANKFUL, BLESSED AND GATHER onto the Doilie from the FREE Bundle that I have made available under the Free Printables page.
3. Texture & Colour
You want to make sure you are using a mix of metals, soft materials, naturals, and small hits of colour when you are figuring out how to style a fall buffet. My hit of colour is turquoise so I make sure there is a pop of that. Regardless of your theme, black is always a good option to use when styling a collection. It anchor your eye and doesn’t leave your gaze wandering all over the space. I incorporated black with the chalkboards and the lettering on the paper doilies DIY banner.
In your search throughout your home, find objects of different heights. Put your favorite piece where you want to draw your eye to; close to the middle but a little off set. In this case I wanted the attention to be on the silver tray but also on the banner.
Take pictures of your objects in different positions in different groupings. Add a layer then take away, then add again. Layering similar items like trays or pictures can add a cozy feel to your display. Take a step back and look at the room from different angles and at different times of day until you like what you see on.
